Beheadings, killings, lawlessness, are we talking about Iraq or Afghanistan? No, according to this article it appears we are now talking about our benign neighbor to the south, Mexico. The very Mexico that our suburban church kids visit on missionary trips and the not so spiritual kids visit during spring break. On one hand the article was especially horrid to me since I have good friends moving their family to Juarez, one of Mexico’s troubled hot spots, in order to be a part of missionary rebuilding projects. Then on the other it was funny to think how Mexico and Iraqs polar cultural and societal opposites can still net the same dysfunctional end result of good people being terrorized, kidnappings, and the feeling that the police and military are unable to control the situation. What’s Mexico’s solution to this? Well the official response is there isn’t any problem. Then at street level you have that one fellow towards the end of the article say the solution resides in America basically continuing to be a Mexican escape route for jobs that Mexico can’t provide it’s Mexicans and if America doesn’t have an open border America herself will be forcing Mexicans to become the drug runners. I found it funny that the fellow didn’t say anything about his native homeland of Mexico improving Mexico’s lot. Nope, his answer to Mexican problems is the American border crossing, keep that baby open please. Grief, Mexico needs to understand that in the long run she can’t afford the escape hatch of northern migration or to give lackluster State responses to her citizens legitimate woes. I mean, if Mexico goes nuts where are we supposed to safely vacation and do missionary work?
