Taxing the "Rich"

Posted by Tony On February - 27 - 2009

A lot of people seem to think that “rich” people don’t pay their fair share of taxes. But according to this article the wealthiest 1% paid almost 40% of taxes while only making 22% of the income. I would say that they are paying their fair share. And before you think lets tax them more, you should read over that article and think on this. Small businesses employ about 50% of people (see here) and these increases in taxes affects those businesses because a lot of them are taxed on a individual basis. Small businesses are the lifeblood of the USA and they are also part of the American Dream, to own your own business and to work for yourself.

Another thing to think about is that people who are well off spend a lot of money which creates jobs and helps to drive the economy. A lot of the rich worked very hard to get where they are a many own their own business and built it from the ground up. Why should we tax people for hard work? Isn’t that counter productive? We want people to better themselves and to try harder, but that won’t happen if the more money people make the more is taken away.

Meaningless things that fill Me Mind

Posted by Benjamin On February - 25 - 2009

The other night I unexpectedly woke up sometime early AM and caught an ounce or two of my dreamy twilight in a bottle so that I could share it with you on this blog.  What were my innermost dreamlike thoughts? They were this; battle sounds from a computer game I played before heading to bed and this rap song from Kiss FM.  I’m annoyed at the triviality of my until then unexposed hidden subconsciousness.  How worthless the things that penetrate my mind.  I didn’t even know the drivel I poured into my head on the way home from work and during video game time stuck around tucking itself in my gray matter till I happened to intruded upon its private slumber.

When would you be concerned enough to conceal carry?

Posted by Benjamin On February - 22 - 2009

What if you had been a student who survived the Virginia Tech massacre?  What steps would you take to insure your safety?  Or would you take any steps at all?  Knowing myself, I’m positive that the very next day I would have gone to the nearest gun store and purchased a .38 ankle gun with the intent that I’d never let myself or my fellow man be defenseless and mercilessly gunned down by any of the many sick bastards of the world.  Also, I wouldn’t care about the legality of a concealed carry permit which begs the question.  If I’d be concerned enough to consider illegal concealed carry after a tramatic event why not before?

Our place in an American Ideological timeline

Posted by Benjamin On February - 19 - 2009

Mark my words, we are crossing a threshold into a brave new social order of things. The following is a American ideological timeline of where we came from and an educated guess as to were we are going. First off we started with Good Capitalism, the kinda capitalism that wasn’t overly exploitative and rewarded an individuals effort to succeed. Eventually though we found ourselves rubbing shoulders a little to frequently with the Bernie Madoffs and Enrons of the world and the general public realized we had reached Bad Capitalism.  Now, at this point its impossible for the general public to distinguish between the crooked capitalists and the institution itself therefore mob mentality carries the day and we throw the baby out with the bathwater.  Our new bath, poured from the enormous world altering stimulus faucet last week by Obama is warm and has fun bubbles in it.  This new bath is called Good Socialism (this is also the threshold we are crossing I might add). This is the kind of socialism that seems to make things fair for everyone once again. This won’t last though, and just as warm bath water eventually goes cold we’ll find ourselves in something called Bad Socialism.  This is were, as Winston Churchill puts it “all share equally in misery”.  To end my timeline I think the next stop from Bad Socialism is popular revolution.  Then again, what do I know, I just sit around reading history books…

My bus broke down today for the third time this year.  I’ve had enough of this bus breaking down business and so have the kids…. and the parents…

Nominations

Posted by Tony On February - 3 - 2009

If you’ve been following the news you’ll know that Obama has been having a bit of trouble pulling his cabinet members together. According to this new post Tom Daschle just withdrew his nomination for Health and Human Services Secretary (HSS) amid concerns over conflict of interest and tax “evasion.” Daschle isn”t the first (maybe not the last) nominee that has had troubles… Nancy Killefer was going to be Chief Performance Officer and also had some tax problems. Before that we had Bill Richardson and his scandal about awarding a state contract to one of his political donors… Obama is not off to a good start it would seem; I don’t recall ever hearing of a President having so much “trouble” filling the cabinet posts. I’m not sure if Obama is just unlucky or if he is nominating some really questionable people.

Its rather funny that the Democrats responses are shock and dismay. Its like they are saying “this is unheard of, how could a democrat be so stupid and corrupt?!?!?!” though for most normal people it’’s probably not much of a surprise.

The Plight of Man is like a House of Cards

We build toward the solid heavens with flimsy material and thought.  Ironically, all it takes is our own ill timed heavy breathing to send it crashing to the floor…
