The Stuffaholic and the Government Tax Hack

Posted by Benjamin On March - 27 - 2009

I love to buy things, money burns a hole in my pocket. I love Ebay and Amazon, I have been known to sacrifice past purchases on the alter of Criagslist in order to fund new purchases. I’m always thinking of the next new thing to buy. I admit that I need to work on my consumerist impulses but it occurred to me that these same traits would make me a great government tax hack. Think about it, we’re both in the perpetual pursuit of new toys or programs to spend all our money on. The difference though between my consumerism and the government tax hack is that I’m interested only in spending MY money, not MY NEIGHBORS. Thus the seesaw struggle and animosity between the two groups, the taxed and the tax man, because I’m not interested in giving the tax man more of my money, I’ve got plans for it, but of course so does he…

Pavlov's Garage Door

Posted by Benjamin On March - 26 - 2009

When I was a wee child it was practically a given that I would take up any opportunity for tom foolery.  The only obstacle keeping me from repeat crimes but not necessarily my most current shenanigan was this thing called “The Spank”.  Contrary to popular belief, this deterrent does work and did work because it hurt like hell.  Anyways, this is how it would typically go down.  I’d get in trouble with mom busting me and then telling me that dad was going to administer “The Spank” when he got home.  I’d live the rest of the afternoon with an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach till around 5 when I’d hear the garage door open whereby announcing the arrival of the supreme law and commander of the Kelm universe!  By this point you may have been wondering about the relevance of the title vs story but worry not because here is where it all ties together.  So, in the same way that the scientist Pavlov conditioned his dog to salivate when hearing a chime I would hear the garage door and not salivate of course but get the cold sweats of dread instead.  Even to this day, in a very very small way I get an unpleasant sensation in my innermost being when I hear a garage door opening…

Reading…

Posted by Tony On March - 11 - 2009

Since I posted about newspapers and mentioned their reading level, I figured a post about people and reading would make sense.

I just read this article, which tells us that Amazon will be releasing books for the Iphone soon. At the end of the article the author mentions that most readers are older and that people under the age of 30 don’t read much. I find that statement to be very sad, but all to true. I personally love reading. I also love playing video games. But as much fun and immersive as video games can be, nothing compares to a good historical fiction, science fiction or fantasy novel. The books just draw you in much better, and as such it is very sad that many people don’t read books very much.

Another casualty of the lack of reading amoung young people is that they end up not being very well informed about the World (or country) they live in. Everyone needs to go to the Wall Street Journal online, or news.yahoo.com or something and read a couple stories every day, just so that you know what is going on and make a few brain cell connections. Even better would be trying to read several books, fiction and otherwise, every year and maybe picking up the Sunday paper once a month.

Dumbed down writing…

Posted by Tony On March - 11 - 2009

Looks like newspapers are in trouble. Not that that is surprising, considering their 6th grade reading level, half-assed stories and biased reporting… Oh and can anyone say internet (blogs *cough cough*)? Printed news is a dying breed… My guess is that only major newspapers and magazines are going to be able to stay afloat. Papers like the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times… People just don’t see a need to pay a subscription for a newspaper or magazine when all of that is available online for free.

We are all living such cushy lives that the Government’s encroachment on us is creeping up, little by little, and we don’t even notice. There are so many unconstitutional things that they do that it is sick. So much money is wasted, practically burned. Who’s money is that? It is the citizens of this nation’s. I think that there should be a ledger where every penny is accounted for. We need to hold our leaders accountable for their actions.

According to this article it appears that millions are still “totally unready” for the switch from analog to HD broadcasting.  Doesn’t “totally unready” make it sound like some hurricane or disaster something is coming that people need to “get ready” for.  Is it just me but who cares if some out there are “totally unready”, pull that analog signal plug already.

Supreme Court feel good decisions always raise costs

Posted by Benjamin On March - 4 - 2009

Because of this lady, all of our anti nausea drug costs are going up.  Doesn’t the supreme court get it?  This is whats screwing up the drug and medical costs in our country. I’m sorry you lost your arm, that sucks, but for Gods sake, when I’m done typing this blog and need some anti nausea drugs the cost of my drugs will be adjusted by your 6.7 million dollar award!!

Diamond Jim Doyle, taxing my DLC!

Posted by Benjamin On March - 1 - 2009

It appears Diamond Jim can’t get enough money from the casino’s these days to pay for all his big government plans and government employees so now he has to tax my downloadable content starting October 1st 2009.  Good ole progressive Wisconsin, taxing it’s way to a better tomorrow.

Iran feels angry and wants a Hollywood apology

Posted by Benjamin On March - 1 - 2009

This apology business is better than slapstick comedy.  Iran wants an apology from a visiting group of Hollywood actors for the movies “300″ and “The Wrestler” which according to an advisor to Iran’s presidant depicts Iranians most negatively.  Well, if I were one of the visiting actors to Iran I would gladly apologize for said movies if first Iran would apologize for Jew hating and religious intolerance. I mean, its like Iran doesn’t get it that they’re throwing this ultra high lob you can’t help but slam dunk in their face.
